May HINU Highlights

The body remembers. The senses hold stories. Each month, we gather the moments that touched us most—through sight, sound, taste, scent, and touch. A quiet reflection, an honoring of the things that made us feel.

Sight

The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin

As an artist, The Creative Act: A Way of Being by producer Rick Rubin has been a deeply inspiring and thought-provoking read. It explores creativity not just as a practice, but as a way of living blending the physical and the spiritual aspects of the creative process. This book encouraged me to embrace and nurture my own artistic flow, while also letting go of the blocks that were holding me back. We highly recommend it to anyone, whether or not you identify as an artist it speaks to the creative potential in all of us.

Sound

Somatic Healing

This month, we experienced a powerful somatic healing session at The Inside Out, guided by somatic healing mentor Mimi. Through a journey of breathwork, sound, and the channeling of light language, we explored the movement of kundalini energy held within both the physical and energetic body. Each person’s experience is deeply personal and unique, shaped by what the body is ready to release or receive. The most meaningful way to enter this kind of work is with an open mind and heart.

Taste

Foraging

In our Hinu Sunday Rituals with Violaine Carossino, foraging becomes both a meditative practice and a way of reconnecting with the land. "I collected nettle seeds in the wild and dried them. It’s also an incredible superfood—nettles are great for hair health!" she shares. "I added some to my omelette this morning." Violaine also speaks of drying lilac flowers from her mother’s countryside garden last spring: “I drink them infused in hot water for their relaxing and digestive properties.” Whether scattered into a meal or steeped into tea, these foraged elements are a reminder that nourishment can be simple, seasonal, and deeply connected to the places we love.

Touch

Bio (me) exhibition featuring 23 artists working with waste and biomaterials

This month, we experienced Bio (me), an exhibition featuring 23 artists working with waste and biomaterials. From mycelium and kelp to food waste and salvaged textiles, each piece explored the intersection of art, sustainability, and impermanence. It was a thought-provoking show that sparked meaningful conversations around decay, regeneration, and creative innovation.

We left feeling deeply inspired—and more connected to the creative energy within our own city. With Rising Festival around the corner here in Melbourne, we’re reminded of how art can shift perspectives and spark new ideas. We encourage you to explore what’s happening in your city too. Seek out exhibitions, support local artists, and stay curious.

Smell

Peppermint

Let the refreshing notes of peppermint in our hair growth oil awaken your creative pathways. Research suggests that peppermint oil may enhance blood flow to the brain, supporting memory and cognitive function. Its naturally stimulating properties can help energise both mind and body, making it easier to spark motivation and dive into creative work with clarity and focus.
