“I feel the most creative when I take time to step away from social media and allow myself to create without consideration of what others might want to see from me.”

Bella Haigh is an Australian content creator and creative based on Gadigal land. Known for her love of slow living, Bella finds beauty in simplicity, self-care, and mindful moments. We joined Bella Haigh for a slow Sunday at her Sydney home, where nourishing rituals, cozy comforts, and intentional pauses created the perfect atmosphere for rest and renewal.

How would you describe your relationship with your hair?

My relationship with my hair has been an evolving one, as growing up I have experimented with styles and colours. I like to see my hair as a physical representation of the season of life I’m in, a manifestation of who and what I am inspired by. As I grow and begin to appreciate my natural hair, I am dyeing it less and prioritise using products that are clean and nurturing, this is something I believe I will always carry with me as our hair holds so much memory and the stories of our past.

What brings you the most fulfilment and happiness?

The answer to this is so simple for me - community and connection bring me the most fulfilment. Spending time with the people I love the most can honestly pull me out of any low mood I am feeling and allow me to return to a place of sheer joy. I notice that when I am feeling sad, self-critical, or just overall unhappiness it is because I haven’t shared a  belly laugh with someone in a while, or spent hours talking about our deepest fears and wildest dreams. For me, relationships are portals for me to understand myself deeper and I have learned so much about the world through the eyes and in conversation with my closest friends and family.

Where do you feel most creative? What kind of environment do you need to tap into that creativity?

I feel the most creative when I take time to step away from social media and allow myself to create without consideration of what others might want to see from me. Immersing myself in nature by going on a road trip, beach day or hike is almost meditative and I am free to be completely in the present moment - I find most of my creative sparks come through here as well.

How do you keep a healthy mind, body and soul?

Creating this balance is a daily practice for me, and I believe nothing can keep a healthy mind, body and soul more than movement, connection, nourishment, stillness and sunshine. It may sound simple, and that’s because it truly is. Movement is medicine for me, allowing me to get out of my mind and into my body. Connection can truly heal and I owe so much of my fulfilment to the incredible humans in my life.

Nourishment goes without saying; understanding what foods my body likes in accordance to the phase of my cycle I’m in, and eating organically has had an incredible impact on my overall health (and we all know how much our gut health is directly connected to our mental wellbeing).

Stillness in the form of meditation and taking regular social media breaks has been a new practice I have introduced this year and has enabled me to feel so much more connected to my inner world, and detached from the stories, expectations and perceptions of everything outside of myself. Finally, sunshine and grounding in nature is non-negotiable for balancing my mind, body and soul - I receive so much insight and clarity when surrounded by Mother Nature, she truly is our greatest healer.

What’s the best hair advice you would share with our community?

My advice would be to treat your hair and your hair care ritual as you do with your skincare rituals. It shouldn’t be an unintentional step in your daily routine, and I invite you to use it as an anchor into the present moment. Massage your scalp and hair with gentle compassion, invest in quality products that you know won’t harm your body or the planet, and most importantly, embrace the hair you have been gifted. I have spent too much of my youth envying other women’s hair, rather than being grateful for what I was blessed with. You are one of many generations of strong women, and your hair is a part of their story as much as your own.
