HINU (N.) — oil, in Māori
Oil has long been used as a tool for restoration; to nourish, protect, and bring life back to what has been depleted.
At HINU, oil becomes ritual.
A simple act, repeated over time, that transforms.
“Our hair is sacred; it carries the essence of who we are and the mana of those who came before us. It is a taonga, a treasure, that binds us to our whakapapa, our genealogy.”
— Allie Cameron, HINU FOUNDER
Where it began
Our Founder’s Story
After experiencing hair loss and burnout, Allie turned inward, toward slower practices, toward tradition, toward care.
Hair oiling became more than a solution.
It became a ritual.
A way to restore not just her hair, but her nervous system. To soften. To slow. To return.
Over time, her hair changed — stronger, fuller, healthier — but so did her relationship to it.
HINU was created from that place. Not just to treat hair, but to reconnect people to their roots, physically, culturally, and emotionally.
ABOUT OUR HAIR GROWTH OIL
From plant to ritual
Each bottle of HINU begins as a slow, considered blend of botanical oils, chosen for their ability to nourish the scalp and strengthen hair from the root.
Our formulation draws on time-honoured ingredients like amla, rosemary, and argan, combined in precise ratios to create a lightweight oil that absorbs easily while delivering deep, lasting care. Every step is intentional — from sourcing to blending — resulting in a formula that feels as good as it performs.
