Orders & delivery
Where's my order?
You'll get a shipping confirmation with a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves us. Orders go out within 48 hours — we don't ship on weekends or Australian public holidays, and dispatch runs slower during sales.
Two things to checking before you write to us: your spam or junk folder, and the tracking link itself, which can take up to 24 hours to start moving after you receive it.
If tracking says delivered and the parcel isn't there: Check with anyone else at the address, your building's mail room, reception, or other secure delivery areas.
If you still can’t locate your package, please contact the carrier directly. They can investigate the delivery, check the delivery details, and contact the driver or delivery person to confirm where your parcel was left. We can't refund or replace parcels once proof of delivery is recorded, but we'll chase the carrier with you and do everything we can to find it.
My order tracking has stalled: Tracking updates may take some time to appear after your order has shipped. If your tracking has not updated for 5 business days since the last tracking update, please contact us with your order number.
My order was returned to the sender: Packages may be returned to us if:
- The shipping address provided was incorrect
- The shipping address was incomplete
- Delivery was attempted but no one was available to receive the package.
If your package has been returned to us, please contact us with your order number and confirm your correct shipping address. We can arrange to reship your order, but you’ll be responsible for the shipping costs.
What does shipping cost and how long will it take?
Orders are generally shipped within 48 hours. Our warehouse doesn't ship on weekends or Australian public holidays. Everything is made in small batches, so occasionally we ask for your patience.
We ship worldwide to most locations with free shipping available. To see costs and shipping times to your location visit the shipping page.
My country isn't showing at checkout — can you still ship to me?
Most likely yes.
We ship to Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union and most of Asia Pacific as standard, and to much of the rest of the world on request.
If we ship to you, your country will be available at checkout.
If your country isn't at checkout, email support@hinu.co with your country and what you'd like to order, and we'll see if we can ship to you.
I entered the wrong address — what now?
Email support@hinu.co immediately with your order number and the correct address. If we catch it before dispatch we'll fix it. After dispatch we can't redirect the parcel, and we're not able to refund orders that go astray because of an incorrect address — so it's worth double-checking at checkout. Shipping to a business? Include the business name.
If a parcel is uncollected or comes back to us because the address was incomplete or wrong, postage costs can't be refunded.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Within 24 hours of ordering and before it ships — email support@hinu.co with your order number and we'll do our best. Once a shipping confirmation has gone out, we can't change or cancel anything, including the delivery address.
Two things we can't do at any point: apply a discount code to an order you've already placed, or make manual changes to a code after checkout.
When will sold-out items be back?
Hit Notify me on the product page and you'll be first to know the moment it lands — popular restocks do move quickly.
Will I be charged customs duties or taxes?
- United States — No. We ship on a Delivered Duty Paid basis and cover all US duties and tariffs, so there are no surprise charges on delivery and your order won't be held by customs.
- Canada, EU and UK — Duties and taxes are collected at checkout, so nothing is owed on arrival.
- Rest of world — We ship Delivered Duty Unpaid. Your local customs authority decides what's payable and any charges are yours. Worth checking your local import rules before you order.
If you refuse the charges, the order comes back to us and we'll refund it less any return shipping costs.
Returns & the Happiness Guarantee
What is the Happiness Guarantee?
If your first Hair Growth Oil isn't right for you, return it within 60 days for a refund — even though you've opened it and used it. That's the point: you can't know if an oil suits your hair without giving it a real go.
Because healthy hair takes time, results aren't guaranteed inside 60 days, and we'll happily help you get more from your ritual before you decide to return.
Covered: your first purchase of Hair Growth Oil bought directly from hinu.co, one 30ml or 60ml bottle, and the first eligible shipment of a subscription. Bought inside a set? We refund the oil's pro-rata value. One approved claim per customer.
Not covered: shipping, return postage, duties and taxes, accessories, tools, free gifts, additional bottles and later subscription shipments.
How to claim: email support@hinu.co within 60 days with your order number, a short note on what wasn't right, and how long you used it. Wait for approval before posting anything back, then send it within 14 days using a tracked service — keep your proof of postage, as we can't take responsibility for returns lost on the way to us. Original packaging isn't required, but please leave a reasonable amount in the bottle. Refunds are processed within 5 business days of your return reaching us.
How do I return anything else?
Accessories and tools — brushes, combs, scrunchies, clips and scalp tools — aren't covered by the Happiness Guarantee. They can be returned within 30 days of delivery if they're unused and unopened. Used accessories can't be returned for change of mind.
Return shipping is arranged and paid for by you, and we'd recommend a tracked service. Email support@hinu.co to start a return.
Bought from a stockist or another retailer? That retailer's returns policy applies.
For an exchange, the fastest route is to return the item and place a new order rather than wait.
My order arrived damaged, faulty, or something's missing.
Email support@hinu.co within two days of delivery with your order number and pictures of the issue. We'll make it right.
Discounts, payment & subscriptions
My discount code didn't apply at checkout.
Sorry — let us fix it. Email support@hinu.co with your order number and the code you were trying to use, and we'll make it right.
A few things that catch people out: welcome codes are single-use and apply to your first order only; codes can't be stacked with each other or used on sale items; and a code has to be entered at checkout — we can't apply one to an order that's already placed.
How do I manage, pause or cancel my subscription?
You can do it yourself, any time. Head to Manage Subscription in the footer of any page to skip a delivery, change how often it renews, update your address or payment details, or cancel altogether. Your order confirmation emails link straight through as well.
Cancelling stops all future charges. It doesn't reverse an order that's already been processed — if a renewal has just gone through and you meant to cancel before it, email support@hinu.co and we'll sort it out if it hasn't been sent.
Can I get a tax invoice or receipt?
Your order confirmation email doubles as your receipt. If you need a formal tax invoice — for a business, a claim, or a stockist account — email support@hinu.co with your order number and we'll send one through.
Using the oil
How do I use it — and do I wash it out?
Yes, you wash it out. The Hair Growth Oil is a designed as pre-wash treatment. You can also leave-in for an overnight or day treatment.
Weekly ritual. Warm 2–3 droppers between your hands and massage into the scalp, adding more as needed to fully coat. Work whatever's left through your mid-lengths and ends, then leave it to absorb for at least an hour or overnight. Wash as usual, then finish with a few drops on the ends for hydration and shine.
Daily. A few drops through the ends, morning and night or as needed. That much can stay in.
How much depends on your hair — shoulder-length hair usually needs 2 droppers, longer or thicker hair closer to 3. A Scalp Massager or the Jade Scalp Stimulator makes the weekly massage more effective and considerably more pleasant. There's a full step-by-step on our Rituals page.
How soon will I see results?
Hair grows on its own cycle, and results vary from person to person — so we'll tell you what customers report rather than make you a promise.
Most people notice their hair feels softer and their scalp calmer within the first few weeks. In the reviews on our product page, customers describe new baby hairs at around three weeks, healthier hair by six weeks, and fuller, thicker hair at two to three months — roughly one full 60ml bottle. The people who see the biggest change are the ones who keep the weekly ritual going rather than treating it as a one-off.
Because healthy hair takes time, our Happiness Guarantee gives you 60 days to decide, even once the bottle is opened.
Will it make my hair greasy?
Not if you wash it out. The blend is built on lightweight oils — grapeseed, meadowfoam, camellia, green tea seed — rather than heavy butters, so it absorbs rather than sits.
If your hair feels weighed down afterwards, you're likely using too much on the lengths, or it hasn't fully washed out. Keep the bulk on the scalp, go sparingly on the ends, and use a second shampoo on treatment day.
How long does a bottle last?
Used as the weekly scalp treatment, a 30ml bottle lasts around 4–6 weeks and a 60ml around 8–12 weeks, depending on your hair length and density. Longer or thicker hair goes through it faster.
Will it work for me?
Will it help with hair loss, thinning or postpartum shedding?
This is the question we're asked most, and postpartum is where we hear it loudest.
The months after having a baby bring a shedding phase that can be genuinely frightening — one of our customers describes losing "a scary amount of hair over the first six months postpartum". It's a hormonal shift, it's temporary, and your hair does come back. What the ritual offers in the meantime is a way to look after the scalp while it does.
The Hair Growth Oil is a blend of botanical oils — amla, black sesame, tsubaki, argan and meadowfoam among them — chosen to support the scalp that hair grows from. Traditional hair-oiling works by nourishing the roots, easing the dryness and tightness that leave a scalp unhappy, and reducing the mechanical breakage that makes regrowth look slower than it is. Customers with postpartum shedding, stress-related loss and general thinning tell us it has helped, and you can read those accounts on our reviews page.
What we can't tell you is whether it will work for you. Hair loss has many causes, and some need medical treatment that no oil substitutes for. If your hair loss is sudden, patchy, or worrying you, please see a GP or dermatologist — we'd rather you got the right help than bought an oil that isn't the answer.
If you'd like to try it, your first bottle is covered by the Happiness Guarantee for 60 days, even once opened.
Which product should I start with?
Start with the 60ml Hair Growth Oil if you're committing to the ritual: same oil, double the volume, and better value by size than two 30ml bottles. The 30ml is the better trial size, and it's fully covered by the Happiness Guarantee.
If you want the tools that make the weekly treatment work properly, the Scalp Duo pairs the 60ml with the Scalp Massager, and the Foundational Kit pairs it with the Wooden Hair Brush, Brush Cleaner and a Silk Scrunchie.
What's in it, and what if I have allergies?
Eighteen ingredients. No synthetics, no added fragrance, no silicones. Organic where we can get it (marked *).
Eclipta prostrata (False Daisy) Leaf Oil, Phyllanthus Emblica (Indian Gooseberry) Fruit Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Black Sesame) Seed Oil*, Persea Americana (Avocado) Seed Oil*, Camellia sinensis (Green Tea) Seed Oil*, Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed) Oil*, Camellia Japonica (Tsubaki) Seed Oil*, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil*, Aloe Barbadensis Miller (Aloe Vera) Leaf Oil*, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*, Chlorophyll Extract, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) Oil*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil*, Cedrus Atlantica (Cedarwood) Oil*, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil*, Piper nigrum (Black Pepper) Oil*, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Oil*
If you have a known allergy, read the list carefully and patch test on your inner arm 24 hours before your first full application.
Will it help dandruff, itchiness or a flaky scalp?
A lot of customers use it for exactly this. The oil helps lift build-up and ease the dryness and tightness that leave a scalp flaky and itchy, and the weekly massage is a good part of why it works.
What we won't do is tell you it treats a skin condition. Persistent flaking, inflammation or itching can be seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis or eczema, and those need a proper diagnosis. If your scalp isn't settling, please see a dermatologist — the oil can sit alongside whatever they recommend, but it isn't a substitute for it.
If your scalp is sensitive or reactive, patch test on your inner arm first.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
We're not able to give medical advice, so our answer is: please check with your midwife or doctor before using any product, including ours, while pregnant or breastfeeding.
The blend contains essential oils — including rosemary, peppermint, cedarwood and sandalwood — and views on essential oils in pregnancy vary between practitioners. The full ingredient list is on this page and on every product page, so you can take it to your appointment.
Can children use it?
We don't recommend the Hair Growth Oil for babies or children under 5. For children over 5, patch test on the inner arm first and check with your GP if there's any history of skin sensitivity.
Our accessories — the silk scrunchies, wooden brush and pillowcase — are fine at any age.
Can I use it on colour-treated or bleached hair — will the green tint it?
Yes to colour-treated and bleached hair, and no, it won't tint it. The green comes from natural chlorophyll and the oils themselves rather than a dye, it's washed out rather than left in, and there's nothing in the blend that strips or lifts colour. The oils help with the dryness that colouring and bleaching leave behind.
We'd still suggest a patch test, and if you've just had a treatment done, a quick word with your colourist.
The oil itself
What does it smell like?
Calming notes of peppermint and sandalwood, over the earthiness of the botanical oils underneath — cedarwood, rosemary, lavender and geranium. Customers describe it as herbal, natural and grounding rather than sweet or perfumed.
There's no added fragrance: everything you smell is the botanicals themselves. It settles as the oil absorbs, and washes out completely.
How long does it keep, and does it expire?
Use both the Hair Growth Oil and the Hydrating Mist within 12 months of opening. They're made in small batches without synthetic preservatives, so they don't sit indefinitely.
Keep the cap tight and store them somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight. There's no production date printed on the bottle, so go from when you first opened it.
The colour of my oil has changed — is something wrong?
No. The green comes from natural chlorophyll and the oils themselves, not from added dye, and natural pigments shift as they oxidise. You may see it move from a deeper green towards gold over the life of a bottle. It doesn't affect how the oil performs.
Keep the cap tight and store it somewhere cool and out of direct sun to slow it down.
If the smell has turned sharp or rancid rather than just changed shade, that's different — email support@hinu.co and we'll sort it out.
Is HINU vegan and cruelty-free?
Our formulations are vegan and cruelty-free. There are no animal-derived ingredients in the Hair Growth Oil or the Hydrating Mist, and we don't test on animals or ask anyone else to do it for us. We're not certified by an external body, so there's no certification mark on the bottle — the commitment stands either way.
Our silk accessories are the exception: the Silk Scrunchies and Hair Protect Pillowcase are made from OEKO-TEX® certified Mulberry Silk, which is animal-derived and therefore not vegan.
Where are HINU products made?
In Melbourne, Australia, where HINU is based. The oils and extracts are blended here in small batches — a considered formulation, made locally and designed with intention.
Our tools are made by specialist makers: the Wooden Hair Brush and Brush Cleaner in Germany, the incense in Japan using traditional methods, and the Jade Scalp Stimulator from genuine Xiu Yan jade.
Brushes, silk & tools
How do I look after the brush, the silk and the clip?
Wooden Hair Brush. Lift hair out of the bristles after each use and run the Brush Cleaner through it weekly. Keep the wood dry — don't soak it or leave it in the bathroom steam — and wipe the base with a barely damp cloth if it needs it.
Silk Scrunchies and Pillowcase. Hand wash in cool water with a gentle detergent, or machine wash inside a mesh bag on a delicate cycle. Air dry out of direct sun. Don't wring, bleach or tumble dry.
Jade Scalp Stimulator and Scalp Massager. Rinse under warm water after use and air dry. Jade is stone — it will chip if dropped on tile.
Rimu Claw Clip. Plant-based cellulose acetate. Keep it away from heat and direct sun, which can soften and warp it.
Can I get a replacement dropper or mist sprayer?
We don't offer replacement droppers or sprayers for sale at the moment. If yours arrived faulty or has broken, that's a different thing — email support@hinu.co with a photo and we'll replace it.
Stockists, wholesale & working together
Where can I buy HINU in a store?
We're carried by stockists across Australia, New Zealand and the United States, plus select locations in Europe.
Our stockist finder lists every retailer and salon carrying HINU, searchable by location.
Do you sell wholesale?
We do. If you'd like to stock HINU, email wholesale@hinu.co and tell us a little about your store — where you are, what else you carry, and how you'd like to work with us. We'll come back to you with pricing, minimums and everything else you need.
Do you do PR, gifting, collaborations or affiliate?
Send the details to support@hinu.co with a little about you, your audience, and where you'd like to feature HINU. We read everything. We're a small team and the volume can be high, so it can take us a while to come back to you — and we can't say yes to everyone.
Nothing matches that. Try a different word, or email support@hinu.co.
