"I don't find self care to be defined by a ritual nor a product, but in the pockets of peace and joy in everyday life"

Coty Childers is a model and creative born at the tip of the Baja peninsula, where the ocean meets the desert. The wild, quiet beauty of her hometown remains central to who she is. After years of living across continents, she’s returned to the sea she grew up in. Now 29, Coty spends her days surfing, sharing time with loved ones, and growing deeper in love with her husband—living a life that feels beautifully simple and full.

What is your relationship with your hair?

My relationship with my hair runs deep — It's more than just something I wear; it's been my comfort, my confidence, my quiet strength. It knows me better than most — holds my secrets, carries my memories, and reflects how I express myself. It’s been there through every version of me — and shaped so much of the woman I’ve become. I’ve always received the most compliments thanks to my hair which has naturally made me feel very proud of it. Honestly, it’s been one of the healthiest, most loving relationships in my life. I give it love and patience, and it gives me back the confidence I need.

Do you have any hair rituals?

When it comes to rituals, I like to keep things simple. I’ve always believed that less is more — not just in how I care for my hair, but in how I care for myself. We’re constantly being told what we need — but I try to tune all that out. Instead, I let my hair, my skin, my body speak for itself. Usually, it’s as simple as a good wash and a little oil before bed.

How do you practice self-care in your daily life?

I practice self care by being conscious of what I'm surrounding myself with and what I give energy to. I find it in laughter, in friendship, nature, movement and love. One of my most important practices is taking dips in the ocean, exercising and being with loved ones. I don't find self care to be defined by a ritual nor a product, but in the pockets of peace and joy in everyday life.

What brings you the most fulfillment and happiness?

My home. Waking up everyday to the reality I have lovingly created for myself. I live steps away from the ocean beside the absolute love of my life. Hearing the birds chirp, the ocean sparkle, seeing whales jump outside our window while making our morning coffee together and then going out and conquering the day. Having my friends over for picnics on the beach, endless conversations over glasses of wine. Being close to my parents. I never take it for granted. I couldn’t have dreamt this up.

Where do you feel most creative?

I feel most alive creatively when I’m both home and near my husband. My home inspires me a lot, I think it reflects our creativity and essence once you step inside. I make an effort to have lots of books everywhere that make you want to read a page or simply change your perspective by reading the titles. A lot of them are about creativity, art, and how to become the best version of yourself. My husband is a full-time artist, a muralist, and a great source of inspiration for me. He is the type of person that makes you feel as if anything can be dreamed into being. To be a part of this journey is the greatest gift. We have traveled around painting together the past couple of years, which has been a dream come true. I am very proud and grateful to be a part of it.
