July New Moon: Don’t force the next chapter

This Cancer New Moon brings our attention back to the people, places and memories that have shaped us. A time for emotional reflection, closure and nurturing the parts of ourselves that need care before we step into a new chapter.

"Feel it all. Let the memories rise, let the emotions move through you, let yourself care deeply but practise the art of not holding on"

On the 14th of July New Moon arrives in the soft, watery sign of Cancer, offering an emotional reset after a period of intensity, confusion and revisiting the past. In the midst of Mercury Retrograde energy, this lunation asks us not to rush forward, but to return home, to ourselves, our bodies, our roots and the relationships that shape our inner world.

Cancer governs memory, family, home and emotional safety. Under this New Moon, waves of nostalgia may rise unexpectedly. Old memories, unfinished conversations and people you never imagined hearing from again may resurface. There is a sense of the past knocking at the door not always because it is meant to come back in, but perhaps because you are finally ready to understand why it had to leave and free yourself from the burden of not fully letting something or someone go. Remember closure does not always warrant reconnection.

Whilst this New Moon feels like a final opportunity to sit with what was never fully felt, spoken or released. To look at the loose ends of your past with softer eyes and ask whether you are still carrying stories, relationships or emotional attachments that no longer belong in the home you are creating within yourself.

What to expect:

Expect a more grounded, discerning and practical energy. After the emotional movement of eclipse season, you may find yourself craving clarity, order and simplicity. This New Moon can highlight the areas where your routines, work habits, wellness practices or environment may have become cluttered or inefficient and give you the motivation to gently recalibrate them. Give yourself permission to breathe, integrate and rebuild your foundations before rushing towards the next chapter

What to do:

  • Reset your daily routines
  • Stock up on your self-care rituals
  • Declutter your home & digital life
  • Tend to your body
  • Journal & set practical intentions
  • Clean your physical space

What NOT to do:

  • Overfill your schedule
  • Confuse being busy with being aligned
  • Obsess over perfection
  • Create unrealistic routine

Digital Sunset Ritual

On the night of the portal, create a digital sunset by putting your phone away 1–2 hours before bed and message your close ones to let them know that you will be temporarily unreachable. Clear your digital clutter, dim the lights, light a candle or incense and take a slow cleansing bath or shower to mark the transition from doing to being. Spend a few minutes hair oiling or intuitively massaging your scalp and body to ground yourself into the physical. And instead of scrolling, pick up a journal and reflect on the following

  • What small change could make my everyday life feel lighter?
  • What am I carrying from the last few months that I no longer need to bring forward?
  • And if I stopped trying to perfect my life and simply began tending to it, what would I change first?

Finish the evening with a physical book or simply stillness, allowing your mind to experience a few hours without constant stimulation. Practising stillness and creating intentional space from the constant stream of information and external worlds allows the mind, body and nervous system to soften, process and recalibrate. In the quiet, you give yourself space to return to your own rhythm, reconnect with your intuition and release what no longer needs to be carried, creating a deeper reset before stepping into a new chapter.
